Censorship

September 18, 2008

Due to a recent news story, the wikileaks site is being blocked in the US and a few other countries. If you are in those countries you cannot view the site through the wikileaks.org DNS entry. However, using the straight IP address 88.80.13.160 works. You can also use alternate DNS entries such as wikileaks.cerundolo.com. I encourage anyone who has access to a top level domain to add a subdomain of wikileaks to their site so people can continue this vital source of information.

Edit: The Wikileaks.org DNS entry seems to be working agin. However, in the event of future censorship wikileaks.cerundolo.com should also work.

Chocolate Brownies

September 8, 2008

I just realized that I have not yet posted my recipe for chocolate brownies. I apologize for the delay, but here it is.

1 cup butter, melted
2 cups granulated sugar
2 tsp vanilla extract
4 eggs
3/4 cup cocoa
1 cup flour
1/2 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp salt
1 cup chocolate bits

  • Preheat oven to 350F.
  • Mix the melted butter, sugar, and vanilla extract.
  • Add in the eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition.
  • Beat in cocoa until blended well.
  • Beat in the baking powder and salt until blended.
  • Beat in the flour until blended.
  • Make sure to get all the stuff from the sides of the bowl.
  • Stir in chocolate bits.
  • Pour into a greased pan (9 x 13 inches).
  • Bake at 350F for 30 min (check at 25 first time, ovens can vary).
  • Let the brownies cool before cutting into bars.

Notes:

  • Use Ghirardelli cocoa and Ghirardelli 60% chocolate chips for above average quality brownies.
  • Adjust the baking time for how you like your brownies. Start by checking after 25 minutes, and every minute after. When a toothpick or cake tester comes out clean, they are done.
  • I usually cut the pan into 24 brownies (6 x 4). Cut off the edges for fancy presentation. Your friends will like eating the edges when you cut them, and for fancy events, no-edge brownies are a nice touch.
